The Trauma Registry Technician works with Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) staff to support the integrity, ongoing data quality and accuracy of the Pennsylvania Trauma Outcome Study (PTOS) through educational support and quality improvement initiatives.  When not traveling this position may work remotely from home.  This position reports to the Director of Trauma Registry.


  • Responsible for processing all data received from Pennsylvania trauma centers, maintaining a permanent log of submissions. This includes the processing of all trauma center quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports, including timeliness of submission control charts.
  • Monitors data submitted to the PTOS database for quality, integrity and accuracy through computer processing and trauma registry data audits.
  • Employs appropriate corrective action as needed to maintain the data integrity of the PTOS database.
  • Assists PTSF Registry Team in coordinating and conducting trauma registry audits for accredited trauma centers and hospitals pursuing accreditation; provides feedback via written and oral reports.
  • Acts as customer support for the PTOS which includes receiving and accurately responding to registry questions from staff, hospitals, and outside organizations.
  • Assigns facility codes as requested by trauma center staff and maintains all electronic facility documentation in support of the Operational Manual for the Pennsylvania Trauma Outcome Study.
  • Supports the ongoing maintenance, accuracy, and distribution timeliness of the Operational Manual for the PTOS including all related resources.
  • Participates in quarterly Trauma Registry Committee meetings and other committee meetings, as requested.
  • Works in collaboration with the PTSF staff regarding interpretation of data related to the accreditation of trauma centers.
  • Supports Foundation staff with development of registry educational materials.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/requested.


Required

  • Associate’s degree (health-related) or 5+ years trauma registry experience
  • Knowledge of anatomy & physiology
  • Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to promote and facilitate change management
  • Capable of delivering 100% customer service to Board members and Stakeholders.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite—WORD, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access
  • Valid driver’s license


Desired Skiils/Education

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR)
  • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS)
  • Knowledge of PTOS and trauma registry data abstraction
  • Knowledge of AIS trauma coding
  • Previous database management experience
